In the midst of the bustling city centre, Kg Baru's Soto Ayam sounded like an interesting option for lunch. In one of the plentiful Malay stalls all around Kg Baru, my colleagues and I decided to chance on a meal that I have yet to lend my tantalizing buds to work on. The Soto Ayam, or Chicken Soto.
The soto is actually shredded chicken, garnished in bean sprouts, rice dumplings and fried-brown small onions and it is served in a soup-dish. The catch of the day is the ground chill paste which is meant to be added to the entire dish.
Colleagues chose fried meehoon over the classic soto, and one even threw up due to its stinging spicy serving.
As for I, the spiciness did not alter the taste of the soto, however, I was filled to the point of unrest, to the point of unbuttoning my pants (don't worry, it was not crowded with customers).
